The Muka Head Research Station is the research arm of the Malaysian Science University. It is involved in tropical marine and coastal studies .It was established in 1996 on the northwestern coast of the island of Penang. Here, undergraduate, postgraduate, postdoctoral work are carried out.

Although Penang in north Malaysia has a population of nearly one million this corner of the island is uninhabited and covered by primary tropical rainforest. This rainforest has been earmarked in 2001 as the site of a new national park.North of the station about 2 hours by boat and fringed by tropical coral reefs is the Pulau Payar Marine Park. This makes Muka Head Research Station an ideal place to study tropical marine and coastal science.
